How can we help?

Product Ingredients & Dietary Needs

  • No – we don’t allow genetically modified ingredients in any Pams food products. This is part of our Genetic Modification Policy, which helps us keep your food natural and trustworthy.

Genetically modified food or ingredients are those made using gene technology that contain new DNA or protein. We make sure these aren’t used in Pams products.

For meat, farmed seafood, eggs, and dairy, we don’t currently prohibit GM feed – but we do for all organic meat products, so you can shop organic with confidence.

  • Many Pams products are suitable for vegetarians and some for vegans. We recommend checking the ingredient list and any vegetarian or vegan labels on the packaging to be sure. If you have specific dietary needs, always check the product information before purchasing.

  • We conduct due diligence to ensure no monkeys are involved in harvesting coconuts for our products. If we discovered monkey harvesting in our supply chain, we’d take immediate action and, if necessary, stop sourcing from that supplier.

  • From August 2023, a regulatory requirement was put in place to add folic acid to non-organic wheat flour sold as suitable for making bread. This impacted our Pams High Grade Flour (1.5kg and 5kg), Pams Wholemeal Flour (1.5kg) and any products made using folic acid fortified flour.

Rest assured we are committed to providing accurate labelling to support your choices as a Pams shopper. If you have specific dietary requirements or preferences, we recommend you carefully check the packaging before making a purchase to ensure the product meets your specific needs.

  • Olive oil turns cloudy when the temperature drops below about 10°C, as the oil starts to partially solidify. This can look like small white specks, globules, or clusters. It’s a natural occurrence and doesn’t affect safety or quality. The cloudiness disappears when the oil is warmed.

Packaging & Recycling

  • Metal and plastic caps and lids can either be disposed of in general waste bin or taken to a select few stores for recycling through the Caps and Lids scheme. Please follow this link to find a drop off location if you are keen to recycle the lid: Where to recycle - Caps & Lids - Recycling Scheme

  • Some of our Pams products are packed in cans for year-round availability, long shelf life, and convenience. These cans are lined to prevent reactions between the food and the metal, which could cause corrosion, flavour taints, or shorten shelf life.

We’re dedicated to delivering great quality and value. While we don’t currently have a formal policy of using BPA-free cans, this is something we’ll keep in mind for the future, based on the availability of safe, effective, and cost-efficient alternatives.

  • Foodstuffs was one of the first retailers in Aotearoa New Zealand to sign up to the New Zealand Plastic Packaging Declaration in June 2018. We’re constantly working with our supply partners to look at better ways of packaging products – all while making sure the integrity and safety of our products you expect stays the same.

We prioritise reducing plastics in our packaging where feasible or we ensure that they are recyclable via curbside or a drop off scheme.

Sourcing, Ethics & Sustainability

  • We care about the people behind the products you buy. As part of our commitment to responsible sourcing, we work closely with our supply partners to make sure they meet high standards for ethical, environmental, health and safety, and labour practices.

To support this, we partner with Sedex – one of the world’s leading platforms for improving working conditions in global supply chains. Sedex gives us practical tools and independent checks to help us verify that our supply partners are doing the right thing.

You can learn more about Sedex here

  • Where palm oil is used, we require all our supply partners to provide evidence that it’s RSPO certified. Roundtable for Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) is a global organisation that ensures that certified palm oil is produced to high environmental and social standards. We’re proud to say that Pams is a RSPO member and 100% of our products support the production of sustainable palm oil.

Palm oil is a very efficient, high-yielding crop and uses less land than alternatives like coconut or sunflower oil. If we replaced palm oil with other vegetable oils, we’d likely use more land and drive more deforestation.

  • Pams products are available exclusively at Foodstuffs supermarkets: New World, PAK’nSAVE, Four Square, and On The Spot.

  • Our Pams canned tuna, salmon, sardines, and frozen white-fleshed fish are Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certified. MSC is a science-based, independently audited certification that shows the fish is sourced from a fishery where fish stocks are healthy, environmental impacts are minimised, and effective fisheries management is in place. Read more about MSC here: msc.org.

Tuna, salmon, sardines, and white-fleshed fish are sometimes caught using pole and line, and at other times using methods like purse seine. To achieve MSC certification, fisheries are audited each year to show that their fishing methods actively avoid and minimise impact on other species and the marine habitat. Destructive fishing methods (like explosives) are not allowed.

  • We’re proudly New Zealand owned and operated, and making our products in Aotearoa wherever possible is important to us.

Sometimes, sourcing products from overseas is necessary. This can be because a product’s country of origin is an important part of what it is, or because offshore sourcing helps ensure the right balance of quality, affordability, and reliable supply you expect.

No matter where a product is made, all Pams products must pass not only our standards, but also the strict requirements set by government bodies such as New Zealand Food Safety, Food Standards Australia New Zealand, New Zealand Environmental Protection Authority and more.

  • The country of origin is listed on our packaging. If you’d like more details, you can contact us directly or check our website for product information.

  • We work with a number of trusted supply partners to produce Pams frozen vegetables to our specifications and quality standards.

While we can’t share details about individual supply partners, we’re happy to be open about how we source our products. Across the Pams range, we use a high proportion of New Zealand‑grown produce.

Like many food brands, we’re seeing changes across the wider food manufacturing industry. To make sure there’s a continued supply of Pams frozen vegetables, we’re exploring a mix of supply options – both here in New Zealand and offshore.

  • There is no Pams factory. Instead, we partner with a range of trusted supply partners to make Pams products.

Because of confidentiality agreements, we can’t share specifics of who makes our products. What we can assure you is that every Pams products must pass not only our standards, but also the strict requirements set by government bodies such as New Zealand Food Safety, Food Standards Australia New Zealand, New Zealand Environmental Protection Authority and more.
